it's surprised me that all the vangard are the men in class captain n lieutenant.

Bleach really faltered there for a while. It was all fight, fight, fight, no story development, no character development. And then Kubo-sensei makes up for it with all the awesome chapters he's been putting out.
I moved away from a favorite only to come back to it again.

...I wish we could get some back story on the Quincy though. I'm an Uryuu Ishida fangirl and want more on him and his clan....

From what I can see on how they release the manga...

One fight sequence + minor talking = 1 release
A whole lot of flashback = 1 release

It was nice getting to know the reason for the vaizards to exist though. Even though all of it was just to stall the inevitable "final battle"
