I don't know what you prefer but I tend to watch more romance than action...so if you're not into that, then dismiss a couple of these:

Kagen No Tsuki: One of my favorite films...a very tragic romance written by the same woman who created Nana and Paradise Kiss. Also...it has Hyde from L'arc En Ciel playing a terribly sexy ghost, lol. I won't say more about it for fear of spoiling the plot but it's a really good movie.

Moon Child: Hyde. Gackt. Vampires. Not meant to be taken terribly seriously, but it is a lot of fun...and lots of eyecandy.

Nana: I prefer the first movie to the sequel. Again, I watch a LOT of romances.

Returner: I would hope a lot of people have seen this. Action for once. An awesome movie that introduced me to Takeshi Kaneshiro ^_^

My Boss My Hero: One of the most hilarious series I've seen...ever. Basically, a mafia boss's son goes back to high school. The problem? He's incredibly stupid. Also, Kouhei Takeda (Otoya) is in this.

RH Plus: Another series. I really like vampires so I liked this one.

Death Trance: One of the coolest action films I've seen. Starring Tak Sakaguchi from Versus.

Shinobi: Heart of Blade: Adaptation of Basilisk/The Koga Ninja Scrolls...I should say Loose Adaptation. But the movie is gorgeous!

Sky High: Another Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Azumi) film. My favorite besides Versus, actually.

And of course, I recommend Versus: Zombies. Yakuza. Incredibly hot Kenji in a suit and a canon yaoi couple, lol. *don't blame me, it's Kitamura's own fault for putting it in there!*

I'd recommend the Shinobi series that Kenj starred in (not to be confused with the movie I listed) but it suffers from bad production values and horribly bad costumes, lol. I mean seriously, ninja of that time period did NOT dress in track suits. It's independent and a tv miniseries though, so I forgive it for those faults. Also...anything that gives me Kenji Matsuda half naked is wonderful in my book.
...it has a decent plot line too.

I just listed a bunch of films I own, lol. Anyway, there's some recommendations for you.

I saw that on HBO or some such like two years ago. It wasn't bad but it wasn't magnificent.



It's Heart Under Blade. It was actually based on the novel rather than the Anime/Manga as to what so many people believe. However even though I haven't read Koga Ninpo Cho, I still wasn't really pleased with the movie in comparison to what I already seen out of - yadda, yadda, yadda... I just remembered we already had that conversation in another thread.

In terms of live action films, if we're going on Japanese cinema alone, then my tastes fall under Jidaigeki films (and the genre in general), particularly Kurosawa Akira's movies. However every now and then I do branch out into the modern stuff.

Crap, I forgot it was Heart UNDER Blade, lol. I think I've seen it referred to as Heart of Blade somewhere *ponders* Oh well, it was one word off. I tend to refer to it as just Shinobi but then I've got the Kenji series and...yeah. The anime was based off the novel anyhow, and I'm not sure how many people are aware of said novel, hence why I listed it as an adaptation of Basilisk as well, lol.

Kurosawa was a master, nuff said, right?

I recommend you (and anyone really) watch films of his such as The Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Kagemusha, The Hidden Fortress, ect. (just to name a few) and find out.

If you're still looking for live-action movies....

The Waterboys movie was good.

Check out Love☆Com (Lovely Complex). If you don't mind mind-numbingly bright colours and whatnot. It has Koike Teppei (WaT) starring in it and Mizushima Hiro in a supporting role.

I second the NaNa movie (1st one).

I'm in the process of acquiring the Aquarian Age movie, which should be good if it is anything like the manga!

Hmm. If you like Seto Kouji... there's always Tonari no 801-chan (My Neighbour Yaoi-chan), if you're okay with yaoi-like concepts. Ditto for the Takumi-kun movie with Yanagishita Tomo and Katou Keisuke in it. Er, not sure if Tonari has been subtitled yet or not... perhaps? And more, if you like BL route... Ai no Kotodama which has Saitou Yasuka (Ibu Shinji in cinepuri) and Tokuyama Hidenori from Kamen Rider Kabuto in it.

The first Battle Royale movie was good and has Fujiwara Tatsuya (Yagami Light from Deathnote live-action) in it. Actually, if you like Fujiwara Tatsuya... and Japanese history, check out Shinsengumi. It's not a movie, but a 49-episode series that aired on NHK in 2006.
